The map shows you the surroundings of Verucchio and the roads that lead you from the province's capital Rimini.
From Rimini on (15 km northeast of Verucchio), take the road nr. S.S. 258 (also called ‘Via Marecchiese’), and only after passing the larger and newer village of Villa Verucchio, turn left and take the road into the hills. Already here you can see the castle of Malatesta at the top.
You may also come from the north where you pass first Santarcangelo di Romagna: this the town right north of Verucchio, and it is here that you leave the old state road nr. S.S. 9, when coming from Forlì or even from Bologna. This road is also indicated as the ‘Via Emilia’, and it comes all the way alongside the Appennines.
The fastest way from the north is by taking the Autopista A14, which has an exit at San Vito/Rimini Nord. So, coming from the north you first pass the province of Forlì, and further down comes your exit. (You better not take the following exit, which is the main exit for Rimini and also for San Marino). So here, at San Vito/Rimini Nord, you head for Santarcangelo di Romagna, cross the junction with the S.S. 9 and cross its town center, and then leave the town at its other end, heading southbound.
From Santarchangelo di Romagna, while leaving this town at its southern outskirts, there are two possibilities to reach Verucchio.
(i) Either find the inner road to the east (=to the left) that leads
to the above-mentioned road Via Marecchiese (S.S. 258). You cross
the river Marecchia and further down turn
right, in order to enter Villa Verucchio. Only after passing this
larger and newer village of Villa Verucchio, turn left and
head for the village that you may see up in the hills in front of you.
At least you can already see the castle of Malatesta at the top,
around which the old village of Verucchio has been built.
(ii) Or continue southbound via the SP 14 to Torriana, and then cross the river Marecchia. Now you approach the village of Ponte Verucchio, where you follow for 1 or 2 km the main road Rimini–Novafeltria (S.S. 258), either to the left (direction Rimini) or to the right (direction Novafeltria). Leave this main road at the next junction and follow any way up the hill. The best choice, however, is to take the direction Novafeltria; in that case you enter your destination via the southern entrance of Verucchio, so you pass the village center and immediately on leaving the market square behind you, you will find the apartments ‘Cesarina’ on your left hand, at the foot of the castle. This is Via Brizzi, the road that leads you out of Verucchio and which goes downhill in the direction of Villa Verucchio.
